Winter weather conditions can result in icy roads and walkways which can be hazardous. Deicers can help in controlling this situation. A deicer is a unique substance that can melt the ice and prevent its formation. What it will do is it will lower down the freezing point of water and avoid any connection between the ice and paved surfaces.

How to De-Ice Windshield in the Winter?

With a de-icer spray, you can quickly eliminate snow and ice much easier. In order to prepare for the morning cold weather, you can mix it on the night before. You can even keep a spray bottle filled with a deicing solution in your car during the winter season. 

There are two ways of making your solution:

Salt Water Solution

To make this solution, you can use road salt or table salt and combine a couple of spoonfuls into the water until it is saturated. Be sure to put it on a glass and do not use any metal since salt corrodes metal. Basically, salt water is effective in melting ice and snow because its freezing point is lower than water. 

Rubbing Alcohol Solution

Mixing water and isopropyl rubbing alcohol are greatly recommended. Mix one-third water and two-thirds rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle. Shake the solution and spray it on your windshield. You will notice that the ice and frost will start to disappear. After turning on your windshield wipers, you can enjoy having a clear windshield in an instant.

You can keep this handy during those winter months to instantly clear your windshield of snow and frost, especially during the morning. Generally, it is safer to use the rubbing alcohol solution since it has a lesser risk of damaging the seal around your windshield and the paint of your car.

When Should You Use a Dock Deicer?

A Dock Deicer is designed to maintain water circulation and prevent ice from forming in a particular area. Also known as aerators or bubblers, Dock De-Icers can be used for protecting your boathouse, dock, or boat from ice damage. Although they can also be used in ponds to prevent fish kill since they can always keep the water open.

Dock De-Icers are an inexpensive way of preventing winter ice damage, whether you are worried about damaging your boathouse or dock or concerned about fish kill. Most people install deicers once the water gets frozen on the surface. Usually, they bore a hole in the ice. Nevertheless, it is much better if De-Icers are installed in the fall.

What is a Dock Deicer?

A dock deicer has a very simple mechanism. With its high-speed propeller, warmer water will be brought to the surface resulting in open water. The standard de-icers are available in ½ or 1 HP models. While the industrial de-icers are available in ½, 1, 1.5, 2, and 3 HP models.

These de-icers can move from 500 to 2700 gallons of water each minute, depending on the model that you purchase. Typically, de-icers can run a depth of 3-5’ below the surface. There should be at least 1’ clearance from the deicer to the lake bed. This is essential to guarantee that the unit can perform well.
