Improving Your RV’s Interior Ventilation

When you’re off gallivanting abut the country in your RV and you start feeling the heat, don’t just blame it on the weather. Perhaps you should also take a look at your RV’s interior ventilation and see if there’s anything you can fix or improve to help cool it down during your trips. It’s all about the equipment, the placement, and proper planning.

Some RV owners turn on their air conditioners when it starts getting too warm for comfort, and that’s basically it. Before you turn on that aircon, try to see if you have positioned your vehicle in the best place possible for it to cool off. The interior ventilation in your RV would definitely work better if you help by moving to a better location.

If you haven’t already, park your vehicle in a shady spot under the trees. Better yet, try to position your vehicle so that the air conditioning unit and the refrigerator vents are under the shade. Take a look at where your windows are facing as well. The largest windows should not be facing the sun. Also, use those window shades and awnings to keep the hot sun from cooking your RV.

A/C units are typically found in bigger, more luxurious motorhomes, but there are plenty of smaller RVs that come with a rooftop air conditioner already. But even if your vehicle doesn’t have an A/C unit, you can always buy one and have it installed. That A/C unit is going to be one of the more power-hungry appliances in your RV, but let’s face it – after spending all day out in the sun doing all sorts of activities, coming home to a cool RV is well worth the cost.

If you don’t have air conditioning in your RV, you’re going to have to install roof vent covers at the very least. They might not work as well as a proper A/C unit, but these roof vent covers will help with the RV’s interior ventilation. Roof vent covers are designed to increase the air flow in your RV while protecting the vents from being exposed to the elements. Not only will more fresh air come in, but any fumes or smoke inside the vehicle will also be cleared up faster.

Speaking of fumes, you should try to do your cooking outside the RV as often as possible, especially when you’re concerned about your vehicle’s interior ventilation. Cooking your meals inside the RV will just add more heat inside, so try to do it outside if you can.

Another good alternative to air conditioning will be roof fans. There will be several vents scattered on the roof of your RV, and you can upgrade these vents to roof fans. It’s easy to find vents that fit exactly into the opening of the fans. You can get the fans that have automatic thermostats if you can afford it, which open and close the vents depending on the temperature settings.

Van Air-Powered Roof Vent Polar White – This vent utilizes a 12-volt fan to help improve the air flow in RVs and trailers without sacrificing security. Quickly opens and closes with a spin of the handle.

Roof Vent Cover II – Improves the interior ventilation of your RV or trailer by promoting air circulation inside and out, rain or shine.
