Tips, Gadgets and Meal Ideas for the RV and Beyond!

Have you already hit your hamburger and hot dog quota for the summer?  Sure, they make for a quick and easy meal at the campsite but let’s be honest, there are SO many other possibilities when it comes to cooking and prepping meals in or outside of your RV.  We’re here to save you from your burger and dog rut with some fabulous summer meal ideas, recipes and gadgets that will have you eating like RV Kings and Queens!

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day (or so they say). You may be the type who is happy to start their day with a hot cup of coffee or tea and a pastry, but many folks need a more hearty meal to get themselves moving.  Bacon, egg and toast lovers will want to check out our Griddles and Campsite Toaster. These items are easy and convenient to use on your outdoor grill or an open fire so you aren’t heating up the inside of your travel trailer on an already hot day.

Are the kids constantly asking for pancakes? Stop worrying about the messy batter all over your RV’s kitchen. The Pancake Batter Dispenser will take away the mess and make your kids’ breakfast wishes come true! Don’t forget to pack your CrockPot slow cooker the next time you head out.  Overnight Breakfast CrockPot Casserole is a sure crowd-pleaser. With minimal prep time the night before, you and your crew will wake up to a fully prepared and delicious smelling morning meal.

Lunch is often overlooked because you are too busy having fun. Instead of going to the trouble of preparing a full meal, some folks are happy to grab some leftovers from the night before while others prefer to graze, having little bits of this and that, here and there. Many people choose the convenience of a grab and go buffet style lunch with simple, classic choices like crackers, cheese, cold meats, chopped fruit and veggies, whatever pleases your hungry crowd. Keep your buffet food safe and clean with these Food & Cup Covers designed to keep pesky flies and bugs away.  Keep in mind that, on hot days, any food left out can spoil very quickly and no one wants a case of food poisoning to ruin your picnic.  A little tip to keep things cool is to place all items on a platter or serving plate and put it on top of a larger bowl of ice. Works like a charm every time!

What about those who are tired of the free for all lunch options and want to venture into new territory?  Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! The Panini Press and the Cast Iron Sandwich Cooker, both from Rome Industries, will take sandwich making to a whole new level.  The Panini Press presents endless possibilities. Just choose your favourite bread, meats, cheeses, and more then let the press do its thing over the grill, fire or stove. A hot and fresh Reuben sandwich at the RV park? Yes, please! The Cast Iron Sandwich Cooker will be a favourite of parents and kids alike, as it is a quick and easy way to make an ooey, gooey grilled cheese or a sticky sweet Nutella and banana sandwich.

You’ve had a busy day, making memories and having adventures. The last thing you want to do is stand around in a hot RV and make a huge dinner. Why not take it outside and make it a family affair? Choose something fun and new that everyone can enjoy making and eating together in the Great Outdoors (or the dining tent).

If you’ve never tried cooking a complete dinner on an open fire then the Basket Broiler should be on your shopping list.  The basket broiler will hold and cook your meat, veggies and potatoes all together so all you need to do is have a seat by the fire, grab a drink and rotate the basket broiler every few minutes to ensure that your food is evenly and thoroughly cooked.  Who doesn’t love roasted chicken? With a Beer Can Chicken Roaster, everyone will be coming back for seconds!  If you are lucky enough to have leftovers, hide them away for the next day’s lunch in a delicious BBQ chicken Panini.

Your slow cooker can definitely come in handy again at dinner time, with so many “set it and forget it” recipes that can cook throughout the day without supervision. Slow cooker ribs are the perfect way to enjoy the best of both worlds. Just pop your ribs into the CrockPot around lunch time, seasoned with your favourite rub and a liquid of your choice (anything from apple juice to a rum and cola mixture). Let them cook for the day and, just before you are ready to eat, toss them on the grill to finish them up nice and crispy. If you’re dealing with a more traditional meat and potatoes crowd, you can even do a full Roast Beef Dinner without even turning on the oven. You’ll be the talk of the campground with all of these delicious alternative meal ideas!

And we’ve saved the best for last  --- SNACKS!

We could never sign off without including some of the all-time favourites that we all enjoy while sitting around the evening campfire.  For all you S’mores lovers out there the Marshmallow Rotor will make life so much safer and easier as it allows you to roast 4 marshmallows at a time while keeping a good distance from the fire. Are ready to take your S’mores game up a notch? Check out 39 S’mores Hacks that will change your Life.  You can’t forget the salty to go along with the sweet. With this Non-Stick Corn Popper, freshly popped popcorn will become a snacktime staple.  If you’ve still got a little room left, grab that Panini press that you thought you would only ever use for sandwiches. Load it up with some crescent roll dough, cream cheese and your favourite pie filling and you’ve got an unbelievable start to a hot and fresh turnover cooked over an open fire.

Now that your stomach is rumbling and you’re all ready to create some amazing meals on your next RV adventure, there are just a few more things that you will want to keep in mind. Always keep your food preparation and eating areas clean to keep away any unwanted animals. Be aware of any existing fire bans for your area and make adjustments to your cooking method, if needed.  Be sure to practice safe grilling, especially when small children are around. Bon Appetit!
