Discover Southern Ontario by RV with Terego

Discover Southern Ontario by RV with Terego

From lakes to vineyards to outdoor activities, Southern Ontario has a great deal to offer travelers. However, despite this great diversity and scope, tourists often find themselves crowded together in the same places. We suggest doing an RV tour, an epic road trip, which will allow you to discover or rediscover Southern Ontario in a whole new way! Along the way, you’ll make stops at local farmers and producers who offer overnight RV parking with the Terego platform. With this tour, the Ontario slogan "Yours to Discover" takes on its full meaning.

Departure: en route to Niagara

Leaving Toronto, you’ll probably want to head to the Niagara region. Our first tip: take your time and get off the highway. The road maybe a little longer, but it will be much more interesting!

Your first Terego stop is at Tremblin Aspens Herb Farm, a family farm inΒ Caistor Centre. The owners, Edward and Susan, produce small batches of oils and vinegar infused with their herbs. Even more fun: they have a farm of alpacas with whom you can mingle! Since Tremblin Aspens Herb Farm is a host of the Canadian Terego network, Terego members (annual subscription required) can stay overnight with their RV. A unique experience!

After spending the night between alpacas and sunflowers, head over to Lake Ontario to visit another Terego host, Puddicombe Estate Farms & Winery. More than just a vineyard, Puddicombe is also a cider factory, an orchard (cherries, peaches, apples, pears), a bakery, and a cafe. Their RV parking is on a very magical lot near a creek and an old car. In short, parents and children will both have so much fun!

Β

Puddicombe is located at the entrance of the beautiful Niagara region. Fantastic landscapes, warm temperatures, famous vineyards, it’s not for nothing that the region is so popular. If you are a Terego member, you can choose between 3 vineyards to spend the night. These are all family vineyards for a more exclusive experience. You might want to spend the night at each of them to make sure you don’t miss anything!

If you’re not a Terego member, you’re not out of luck, as the region offers a dozen campgrounds, most of which are close to St. Catharines and Niagara Falls. We still advise you to book in advance.

Beyond the waterfalls and vineyards, the region offers plenty of things to do: casinos, historic sites, and miles of bike trails, including the popular Waterfront Trail, which stretches no less than 3,600 km along Lake Ontario, Lake Erie, Lake St. Clair, the Niagara River and the St. Lawrence River.

Southwestern Ontario: agritourism, beach, and nature

Southern Ontario doesn’t stop in Niagara. Far from it! Your journey continues to the southwest of the province, specifically to Norfolk County, known as Ontario’s garden. Did you know that this region has a temperature similar to that of central Italy and northern California? This is what makes it possible to extend the crop and harvest season. The region is therefore rich in farmers’ markets, breweries, vineyards, and distilleries.

For RVers, the Terego network has several hosts in Norfolk, including breweries and Dalton White Farm. The Dalton family has owned this land for 7 generations, and they grow a little bit of everything, including delicious asparagus and fruits. Everything you need to prepare a fresh, local camping dinner.

Dalton White Farm is a good starting point for visiting Turkey Point and Long Point Provincial Parks. As its name implies, Long Point is a 40-kilometer-long sandy point recognized as a biosphere reserve by the United Nations. It is a globally recognized observation site for migratory birds. If you can, we advise you to visit it in autumn or spring. Both parks have campgrounds.

Enjoy a picnic with your feet in the sand

Further west, you must visit Sprucewood Shores Estate. Sprucewood is a popular host of the Terego network. First, the winery in a Tuscan-style building is simply beautiful! Second, the wines, produced in small batches, are of exceptional quality. Finally, the property features a pretty beach on the shore of Lake Erie. Imagine enjoying a picnic basket made from local produce (sold at the vineyard), accompanied by a Pinot Grigio with candied citrus aromas, and all this with your feet in the sand!

Β

You are now located at the western end of southern Ontario, and it’s time to head back home. The journey is not over yet, and you still have several beautiful destinations to discover on the road!

To get off the beaten track and discover the hidden treasures of the Ontario countryside, we suggest returning to Toronto via the land. On the way, you will discover several Terego hosts. The Terego team has fallen in love with the Udderly Ridiculous Farm Life farm in Bright. But be careful! A stop at this farm will give you an irresistible urge to eat ice cream! Their dark chocolate and wine-flavored goat’s milk ice cream was named the best new dessert in Canada by the Retail Council of Canada. Terego members have the chance to visit the farm and enjoy a unique experience with the playful goats and curious alpacas.Β
